A large-scale NPC life simulation game/framework designed and built for my MSc project, during Summer 2025. Uses Unity DOTS to implement the ECS paradigm, allowing for simulating 1000+ agents acting using a Utility AI approach.
The project also aimed to explore simulating NPC emotions and social interactions, though this aspect ended up less pronounced in the final result since the technical implementation took up more time.
- Utility AI makes NPCs act based on their current needs and environment, with more important tasks assigned a greater weight.
- NPCs have a short and long-term Memory system which influences their mood based on recent events. Mood then affects which actions they are likely to take.
- Traits are randomly assigned to NPCs, and influence their behaviour.
