Made for Cozy Autumn Jam 2026 - unfortunately very unfinished! Haven't done a solo jam or one this short in a while so probably overscoped.....

The theme of the jam was Roots. Normally I like to do some kind of twist, but this time I took it in a pretty straightforward direction and made a game about plants :)

In Plantonomy you can cross-breed plants, allowing you to try and select for traits you want in the new plant. Each plant has dominant and recessive traits, which will determine how much the traits of their child are affected by that parent.

I was inspired by the theme in regards to the way a taxonomy tree spreads out as more offspring are produced, and different types of species can emerge from the same roots!

Planning to pretty this up after the jam rating period, fix some UX issues and add a progression system + a visual family tree of the plants you've created so far. There's a definite lack of Gameplay in the game, so I want to add some incentives to breed specific types of plants and actually add a system for planting and harvesting seeds.
